Hey guys I'd really like to develop a sample driven sound engine for TG.
I've got a robust implementation of one I did before whilst developing my own tab program. Ever heard of realtab? It was a total flop lol but sounds kinda nice.
I've been coding well over 10 years now but only as a hobbyist really, where do I get started contributing to TG and how do I avoid stepping on anyones toes whilst doing so?
My old audio engine used plain wav samples with directsound, but I was hoping to build a flac/openal engine

To hear my engine, go to http://www.myspace.com/realtab
It hasn't been maintained for like a year or two though so I wouldn't bother posting :P

Hi Pez, no i really never tested RealTab,
is it available for GNU/Linux ?? ( i don't have windows installed to test it )
You can write a "MidiOutputPortProvider" tuxguitar plugin..
you could see as example:
tuxguitar-alsa
tuxguitar-fluidsynth
tuxguitar-winmm
tuxguitar-jsa
MidiOutputPortProvider creates an instance of MidiOutputPort
that implements a MIDI Receiver where you can apply your synth engine.

Hi Pez,
I don't know how it's on Linux, but here are the solutions for Mac & Windows
MAc:
- 1 Under the onboard Midi preferences of your Mac OSX System create a new IAC Driver!
- 2 Run Tux Guitar, -> Prefernces -> Sound -> choose IAC Driver for output
- 3 run Ableton Live -> create a midi track -> choose IAC driver as Input -> switch monitor to IN -> Put your preferred soundmodule in the the track. now you must be able to here sound from ableton live, with the midi notes from TG.
Windows:
Download the Program LOOPBE1 from http://www.nerds.de
This little proramm is like the IAC Driver on Mac OSX
Follow the steps 2-3 in the mac description.

linuxx: what you need is to find a good soundfont/gigasampler.. or maybe a nice DSSI/VSTi
