is it possible to get tab off one of these guitar tab sites and get it to play on the tuxguitar? or is there any way to load tabs into the tuxguitar short of buying what the ebay sellers have available?

There's tons of tabs out there, that work with tuxguitar, since you can use any guitar pro tab... So if you google "title tab guitar pro" you'll find tabs for free for sure... Same works for "guitar pro tab torrent", if you have a torrent client. Of course make sure to respect legal issues coughcough ;-)
