I have just loaded tuxguitar-1.0-rc3-windows-x86-jet and opened a .gp3 file. It has picked up the data and I can see it playing but I have no sound. Can you help please. Thanks.

Graham

Hi,
Go to "Tools -> Settings", at Sound option.
what "MIDI Port" do you have selected ? (You can try selecting other)

Is the MIDI system working on your OS ?
To check that you can try export that .gp3 to midi ( File -> Export -> MIDI ) and then try reproduce it with Windows Media Player.

Thanks Julian

I can get sound on only one option - Java Sound Synthesizer. But that sound just like a synthesizer. Is that the best I can expect? I was expecting realistic sounding instruments.

PLease advise.

Thanks.

Graham

"Java Sound Synthesizer" is a synth provided by Sun java.
it don't have nice sounds..

it's supposed you can select devices from Windows.. but i don't know why they don't sound.
That's why i ask you about try play MIDI with windows media player.. to know, if your windows have MIDI configured.

Quite apart from my sound problem now I can't load any files into Tuxguitar. When I try to open a file it locks up and says programme not responding.
What am I doing wrong. Has something got corrupted?

Can you tell me please if with this development version you get any sound ?
http://tuxguitar.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/tuxguitar/trunk/TuxGuitar/tuxguitar-svn.rar

This isn't an "installer" package.
you'll need to uncompress the .rar file, and make 2 clicks to "tuxguitar.bat" to run it.

The problem is actually simple. That also happened to me and all my music scoring software don't play music at all. so I tried:
Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices.
On the Audio tab > Volume of the MIDI music playback.
I just found out that the SW Synth Volume is muted.

I've found that playing a midi file in Windows Media Player will cause the MIDI tab (SW Synth in my case) to have it's volume slider to be set at the lowest level.

It seems you have to manually reset this as the previous post stated:

Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices.
On the Audio tab > Volume of the MIDI music playback.
I just found out that the SW Synth Volume is muted
