How to make Tuxguitar priority over Guitar Pro?

I downloaded Tuxguitar because my Guitar Pro is out of date, and I can't open newer Guitar Pro files. But after downloading Tuxguitar it still opens in Guitar Pro saying "To open this file, please update your Guitar Pro software." I need to know how to give tuxguitar priority over guitar pro when opening newer files.
