Because when you export the song as a MIDI, the files cannot be converted.

mmm no, i really don't understand.

>> files cannot be converted
When you export a midi file, you should get a file "TheFileName.mid", then do you want to convert the midi file to another format ?

Yes, I would like to convert the midi to mp3 so I can use it as a backing track but whenever I try to convert it is says "Protected Files Cannot Be Converted.

now i understand.. ( did you who sent a contact mail ? )

To convert MIDI to Audio you need an external software that can do that (it's not about tuxguitar itself).

I know about applications that do that for GNU/Linux ( not sure what OS are you using ).
under GNU/Linux, you can do that with timidity, or fluidsynth
but those applications will read the MIDI and save it to a WAVE (.wav) file instead of mp3..
then you can use another software to convert from wav to mp3.. i do it with "lame" under GNU/Linux..

i'm sure there will be a lot of applications to do that on windows too..

Im using Windows XP, and i've tried a bunch of converters that can convert midi, but it will not convert because it says protected files cannot be converted.
