After a while I finally found Chorus/Reverb/Phaser/Tremolo buttons in the mixer. However, they don't work for me. I've tried playing with the sound setting to no avail. Is it a problem with my MIDI playback system, or is it not completely implemented yet?

the controls are implemented, but is the MIDI synthesizer that must support them to work.
not all synths support them,
i also didn't found any "software" synth that support all effects ( only reverb and chorus )

I played around with some settings in my EAX control panel for Creative SB live! [9000] and I was able to get chorus and reverb to work. Unfortunately what I probably need is phaser. I think Creative might have some download that will support phaser and tremolo, but I haven't found anything. Is there anyway I can update without doing a hardware update?

no i don't have idea about, you should ask it to the sound card company support i think. they will know if the sound card support phaser or not.

I don't think so
These are VST plugins, you windows MIDI synthesizer must support them to work.
