When I start the program, it closes inmediatly and without any error messages displayed.
I'm using the latest version, from the ubuntu 10.10 repository

I often had problem with the version from the repositories. Try to remove the tuxguitar folder in your home directory or download the version from this site.

Or try to run tuxguitar from a terminal and check if it displays any error messages there (or did you do that already and refer to no error messages in this case?)

are you using ubuntu's unity? i saw exactly this behavior: it appears that tuxguitar won't work with the (mutter) compositor;
solution: use the gnome desktop environment;
