Subject Gervill sounds awful!   Post Reply Post New Topic

After a few months of frustration at TuxGuitar not producing sound on Ubuntu 11.04, I finally got it working. My only problem is that the Gervill Midi port sounds absolutely terrible, more like TuxGlockenspiel than anything else. Anyone got any alternatives?

You can configure a nice GM soundfont (*.sf2) to make better quality sounds. at the Tools -> Plugins menu, look for java sound api plugin configuration and configure a custom soundbank.

Actually... I've done the thing with the soundfont but on the tools -> settings -> sound menu, I can't change from Gervill to the Java one (I use TG on a computer that runs Windows and that has the Java one as the midi port). Advice?

Gervill works as default by running tuxguitar with openJdk, if you run it with sun's java so Java Sound Synthesizer is the default synth provided by java and it don't have *.sf2 soundfont support.

Another way to have .sf2 support in tuxguitar is by using the fluidsynth plugin.
you can configure it at the plugins section, and for each soundfont you add a new midi port will be created at settings -> sound, such as "FluidSynth[soundfont name]"
