Hi,

Many thanks for this great piece of software ;)
here's my suggestion :

It's quite hard playing the guitar while the soft is playing a song when you're a classical player ! Indeed, the box around the notes makes the reading really hard. For instance, when you think you're reading a E, it's in fact a C...

Sorry for my explainations, but I'm quite bad in english...

Have you understood what I'm trying to say ?

to make it more accurate : It's when you play without tablatures, only with score. Is there a way to disable this box around the measure when Tux is playing ? Just putting a background color on the played measure could solve this if not possible.

The corresponding code can be found in
tuxguitar/gui/editors/tab/TGMeasureImpl.java
(at least in a current CVS version) inside the method

private void paintPlayMode(ViewLayout layout,TGPainter painter)

I changed for instance line

layout.setMeasurePlayingStyle(painter);

to

layout.setPlayNoteColor(painter);

which will paint the box in red for a better discrimination from the
score lines. Commenting out the next lines will disable the box.

If you don't want to change the source code of TuxGuitar you could at
least change the colour of the score lines. Look for the color.line
property in the config.properties file or set it in the
tools->settings menu (hot key ) in the styles section. However,
your score will look a little bit strange then ... .

I hope I did understand your problem correctly and you can now
understand the explanation in my bad English.

With best regards

Hi,
I have the same problem with the box which indicates the score you're playing. I opened a new threat in the help section. But changing the code like described above would really be helpful. I run the compiled program version 1.2 on windows, so I cannot change the appearance of the play mode box (as described above). Could this function be added to the next software release?
Thanks
Peter

It would be pretty cool to get rid of the box - though I'm a rock player myself. I know theory from band class though, so I can read it. My best advice, really, is to get comfortable with reading tablature. It's very nice and convenient, and you never have to transpose with alternate tunings, then. There's never a red box around the tablature.
