I'm starting to learn to play bass. It appears that bass partitures are written an octave higher than it really sounds. So when you are playing a midi, the partiture you are watching is not correct (in fact, it's exactly what is sounding, but it's not the way bass partiture are usually written).
It seems that other programs have a "display transpose" option which keeps the notes unchanged, but displays them as they were an octave higher, so you are both reading and hearing the correct notes.
Any other bass rookie/player out there? Any way to do that with TuxGuitar?

Hi,
go to "track -> properties" option,
at "tuning" section, there is a combo "called" offset.
try set it to -12 or -24..
also try set the string count to 4 (it'll causes a default 4 strings bass tunning)

It seems to work, but now I have to raise the bass line one octave in all my midis. I've done it with Rosegarden, but the resulting midi is not correctly imported into TuxGuitar. Noteedit (a KDE midi editor) and Rosegarden itself both read the midi perfectly.
There is a way to transpose a track an octave higher? Have you used some Linux midi editor which creates midis that can be properly imported into TuxGuitar?

Hi,
it was tested with other guitar based editors (guitar pro, powertab,...)
rosegarden and notedit, are not guitar apps.. they use the standart score notation.. what is 1 octabe lower than guitar scores.
i can made an option, to transpose octaves when import/export midi files.. but that change will be able for next release.

Je, si lo hubiera notado hubiese cambiado a español antes. No me di cuenta de ello hasta mi tercer post... y porque caà en que el dominio era .com.ar (llegué por un buscador y no me habÃa dado cuenta).
Si tu inglés es desastroso y yo ni siquiera me doy cuenta, significa que mi inglés es aún peor... y si aún asà podemos mantener una conversación, significa que nuestro inglés no debe ser tan malo.

The transposition function would be very helpful, especially if you could make it transpose melodies by a number of semitones you input, like in noteworthy composer.

A nice trick to transpose seems to be to export midi then import midi and tell it to transpose by a certain amount.
