there's a "shedload" of hymns already done up in Noteworth Composer format over at the Cyberhymnal

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/misc/download.htm#scores

The windows software they used to compose them with is found here:

http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/

there is a "browser plugin" which works for Firefox, but I suspect it only works on the windows version of Firefox, not the Linux version...

What I would lie would be a direct import of the .nwc files into Tuxguitar so that I can easily re-arrange them to multiple verses & choruses to practice pplaying my Bass guitar to.

Hi,
this release of tuxguitar was maded with a better fileformat plugin support ( somebody can write a tuxguitar fileformat plugin even after the app was released )
but that don't means it's easy to do.
to write a file-format importer, first is needed have the file-format specification ( what the first "bit" means, what the second, etc ).
if that specification isn't available, a reverse engine process is needed, and that can take a lot of time.

Similar to how you worked out the GP formats then... I've had a brief look in the .nwc files using notepad and the file appears to be binary gibberish...

It may be easier for me to export to midi using the nwc browser plugin and then import in from midi... at least midi is a published spec that everyone understands.

Well, yes.. allmost applications write binary files.
( if it was a text/plain file, it will be more easy to understand the file-format ).. a Hexa editor is needed to read the file contents, and then the hard work of compare byte to byte.

If you can provide me with this, maybe I can figure it out.

The .nwc file, which has the original file information.
The .nwctxt file, the same information in a different format.

If someone actually has NoteWorthy Composer, they should be able to provide both files. Of course, TuxGuitar is more oriented towards guitar and bass. With piano support, it may work the way you want, or may not.
