First of all, I just want to say thanks to you guys for making such a great program! All in the spirit of Open Source who the hell needs Guitar Pro anyway! :-D

Congratulations on getting to the 1.0 mark as well! (Once the release candidates are out of the way at least!)

I have a request though for a feature in the program. It might just be me, but when I am creating a new file to work with, I am having a hard time selecting notes or tabs so that I can copy and paste them. Even with "Selection Mode" selected from the 'Edit' menu, I am unable to perform that task.

The function is useful, say if I am writing a score which repeats bar after bar. It would be very convenient if I could copy and paste. I know the function is definitely available under Guitar Pro. I'm just wandering whether it is me not trying hard enough but I think the feature hasn't been implemented yet.

Thank you very much and good luck!

XY

Hi,
See on "Measure -> Copy"
the reason because Copy/Paste isn't at "edit" menu, is because tuxguitar can only copy "measures" instead of component selections.

> Even with "Selection Mode" selected from the 'Edit' menu
Note that "Selection Mode" and "Score Edition Mode" are for mouse "Clicks" (not for drag to select)
the difference between check edition and selection, is about with edition you can click on the score, and add notes with the mouse while on "selection mode" if you click on the score, the cursor go to the clicked beat position.

Hi,
i agree with XY,
i really think a copy/paste option should be added in the beats menu.
Being able to copy/paste chords within a measure is very lacking, and it's too consuming when making rhythm tracks.

Otherwise, it's a very promising piece of software.
I would really appreciate a tonality tool (like the one in powertab).
And the ability to group tracks for output to pdf :p

Keep up the good work.

(back in the selection/copy/paste topic) just some ideas:

what i'd like to see is two things: first, to select the notes with the mouse, then being able to copy and paste them in any position of the score; not the whole measure, just some notes; second, it would be useful if, using the mouse, we could 'drag' the bars through the notes, doing some king of 'resize' a measure;

anyway, to my needs, tuxguitar is great as is; :D

Selection as it is outlined above makes for very poor and confused workflow. I don't get it at all.. it's very unintuitive not to use the mouse to drag-select notes.
Tux guitar looks very nice but for me, it's not usable for any serious work. It's a promising piece of software if it would avoid copying guitar pros faults and instead be strong where GP fails.. and GP really does fail a lot!

Some things I would put on high priority:

control of the page layout, how many measures per row, where to break for a new staff, where to force measures together (here GP does a good job actually)

comprehensive, but simple style editor for the score, with control of measure scale, margins, distance between elements, fonts etc. perhaps with preview? don't give the user control over everything! but enough to have control over some disposition of the music.

correct display of tuplets? mine show as numbers at each entry, instead of the standard notation bracketing above the staff-notes

common musical symbols that occur in guitar music, for instance left and right fingerings using numbers 1-4 for left hand and pima for right hand (NOT GPs right hand system), string indications for the notation - circled numbers, musical direction marks, D.C. CODA SIGN etc. Crescendo Diminuendo open triangles

Tempo and feel changes within a score, accellerating and deaccellerating

Custom symbols that can be added above the staff, above the note or beside a note (or rest), could for instance be used for indication of taps on the soundboard of a guitar (in flamenco - golpe)

Sorry for posting all this in an old, obscure thread. To me, this program would be pure gold if I could use it as a sort of middle thing between GP and Sibelius.. that is: fast entering of guitar music, but with the ability to print out correct and decent looking scores with the information that is needed to perform them correctly. A lot to ask of a free program. If this program/project shakes off the shackles of GP, moves from being a tab-reader to something guitarists can use for composing and printing nice scores, I would definitely like to find a way to contribute to it's development. All in all, it looks like there's a great foundation in place. I've been using version 1.1 in Ubuntu 10.04. Hope that this project is not abandoned..

Is it possible to copy more than one measure at the same time?
If no I'll hope, that this will be in the next version.

p: yes you can, at the copy measures window, there are "From" and "To" spinners where you can set the measure range to copy.

Is there a way to copy and paste without copying/pasting the other tracks? The song i'm tabbing repeats the guitar and bass part, but the drum part changes at parts, and i'd rather not have to a.) tab out everything again, or b.) copy/paste then go and delete everything. I will if I have to, but if there's a way around it, that would be wonderful.

When your song have two or more tracks, there will appear a new option "All Tracks" at the copy measures window.
just make sure that option isn't checked.

Like what you did with TG, but you guys REALLY need to add a selecting and copy/paste function like in GP.

As it is now it's impossible to use for me, since you have to select every single note to change dynamics and you can't copy/paste.

Hi,

I totally agree with adding such tools to TuxGuitar, they would really be useful.

Is it possible to duplicate whole tracks or copy all measures and paste them in a new track. Thanks if anyone knows what to do, xD!

Otherwise, TuxGuitar is a great programme!

I have several hundred PD scores in MusicXml format and I'd like to be able to import them into TG for the Ukulele.
I can import a Midi version to guitar and select and paste would make it a dream for converting to Uke tab..
The same would go for any instrument/tuning I guess.
