Creating a new file:

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a brand new file to work on. When you launch TuxGuitar, you should already have a blank tablature document ready for editing. However, if you need to start over with another blank document, all you have to do is click the “New” button (highlighted in red below).

No sound in TuxGuitar?

So, you managed to run tuxguitar, but there is no sound...

Step 0 - sound check

Start with simple trivial things: are your speakers turned on, did you press play? Are instruments in TuxGuitar muted?

Windows users often have muted MIDI volume in operating system’s mixer.

Problem:

It means that Java Sound Api, couldn’t load a MIDI device. We know that this problem occurs with some sound cards on GNULinux, but we coludn’t determinate why...

Solution:

The first thing to try is to close all the application that might be using sound output and restarting TuxGuitar after. If it doesn’t work try to change Tools->Settings->Sound->Sequencer to “TuxGuitar Sequencer”.
